Ascension Day: Over 325,000 Vehicles Leaving Greater Jakarta for the Holiday

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A total of 325,067 vehicles left Greater Jakarta, or Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabotebek), for the Ascension Day holiday that started on Thursday, May 29, and will stretch over the weekend. PT Jasa Marga, the state-owned toll operator, recorded the number from four main toll gates, namely Cikupa toll gate, Ciawi toll gate, Cikampek Utama toll gate, and Kalihurip Utama toll gate.

"The traffic leaving Greater Jakarta during this period is up by 20.6 percent compared to regular traffic," said Lisye Octaviana, Corporate Communication and Community Development Group Head of Jasa Marga, in a written statement on Friday, May 30, 2025.

Lisye mentioned that the vehicles leaving Jabotabek in the past two days were mostly distributed towards the east, bound for the Trans Java route and Bandung, with 150,993 vehicles, covering 46.5 percent. The details are 73,167 vehicles passing through Cikampek Utama toll gate of Jakarta-Cikampek toll road and 77,826 vehicles passing through Kalihurip Utama toll gate of Cipularang toll road.

The traffic is also distributed in the west, heading to Merak, with a total of 95,590 vehicles through the Cikupa toll gate of Tangerang-Merak toll road.

Heading to Puncak, Jasa Marga recorded 78,474 vehicles passing through the Ciawi toll gate of the Jagorawi toll road.

On May 29, or on Ascension Day, Lisye reported that as many as 159,116 vehicles left Greater Jakarta. "An 18 percent increase compared to normal traffic of 134,804 vehicles," said Lisye.

During the long weekend period, she said, there was an increase in the number of vehicles passing through the Cikampek Utama toll gate, from 26,632 vehicles on regular days to 36,372 vehicles.

Meanwhile, the vehicles passing through the Kalihurip Utama toll gate increased from 26,679 vehicles to 41,339 vehicles. And the vehicles passing the Ciawi toll gate increased from 30,979 vehicles to 39,378 vehicles.

Lisye urged road users to be well-prepared for their trip before entering the toll road. This includes ensuring that the vehicle and driver are in prime condition, making sure there is enough fuel and electronic money card balance.

"Stop by rest areas to take a break and obey all traffic signs and instructions from officers," she said.
