TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Board of Peace (BoP) has reportedly urged Hamas to finalize a draft agreement on the demilitarization of the Gaza Strip by the end of this week, according to media reports.

The New York Times, citing sources, reported on Monday that the United States wants Hamas to surrender nearly all of its weapons and provide a map of its underground tunnel network in Gaza.

Representatives from both sides are then expected to meet in Egypt on Tuesday to finalize the demilitarization agreement by the weekend, although the schedule remains subject to change.

Last November, the United Nations Security Council adopted Resolution 2803, approving the implementation of the Gaza peace plan agreed upon by Hamas and Israel in October 2025.

In mid-January, Steve Witkoff, special envoy for U.S. President Donald Trump, announced the start of the second phase of the Gaza peace plan.

That phase includes the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza, the deployment of an International Stabilization Force (ISF), and the establishment of a new governing structure for Gaza under the Board of Peace, which was initiated by Trump.

Trump announced the formation of the BoP in January and invited around 50 countries to join. The group held its first meeting in Washington on January 19, attended by representatives from 20 countries.

Despite the ongoing transition to the second phase of Trump’s Gaza peace plan, clashes have reportedly continued in the Gaza Strip between Palestinian fighters and Israeli forces.
