TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Several civil and youth organizations and students will stage a pro-Palestine rally on Sunday, October 12, at the Horse Statue area in Central Jakarta. The rally will be held with the purpose of supporting the ceasefire plan in Gaza, Palestine.

The committee member of the rally titled 'Indonesia Lawan Genosida' or 'Indonesia Against Genocide,' Syauki Hafiz, said his group initially intended to stage a protest commemorating three years of Israeli onslaught against Gaza. But Israel and Hamas reportedly reached a ceasefire this week. Nevertheless, he said, the potential for genocide to recur still exists.

"We wish for Indonesia to take an active part in ensuring the genocide won't recur and there won't be any ceasefire violations," he said in a written statement on Saturday, October 11, 2025. "And no more war in Gaza."

During the rally, the participants will also demand that President Prabowo Subianto fulfill his promise to send 20 thousand peacekeeping personnel to Gaza. The momentum for the troop deployment must happen now without delay. "There is concern that the delay might be utilized by Israel to launch another military operation," he said.

Syauki hopes that the peacekeeping force deployment can be realized soon to oversee the ceasefire process and ensure the entry of humanitarian aid. In addition to demanding an active role from the Indonesian government, Syauki also underscores the responsibility of the international community to safeguard lasting peace in Palestine.

"We also demand that the international community safeguard the ceasefire and the end the genocide, as well as the rebuild Gaza,' he said.
