Garuda Indonesia Discloses Flight Routes Amid India-Pakistan Conflict

7 hours ago 3

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian state-owned airline Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. stated that its flights to and from Europe and the Middle East do not pass through northern Indian airspace. This announcement follows the outbreak of the India-Pakistan war on Wednesday morning, May 7, 2025.

Garuda Indonesia's Director of Operations, Tumpal M. Hutapea, stated that the airline's operational flights, especially those to and from Europe and the Middle East, are still ongoing as normal. Garuda Indonesia has chosen the Colombo and Sri Lanka route.

"The air routes taken by these flights pass through the Colombo area in Sri Lanka, which is not a conflict zone," Tumpal said in a written statement quoted on Saturday, May 17, 2025.

Tumpal mentioned that Garuda's management has coordinated with various parties to ensure the safety of flight operations. He added that Garuda Indonesia has also prepared mitigation measures for the impact of the India-Pakistan war on flight routes.

"We are closely following developments in the future. We also coordinate with all relevant stakeholders to ensure all aspects of flight operational safety and security," he said.

Tensions have escalated between India and Pakistan, resulting in the India-Pakistan war when India launched missile attacks on several areas in Pakistan and Kashmir, which is controlled by Pakistan, on May 7, 2025.

These attacks caused several explosions heard in various areas, including Bahawalpur, Muridke, Bagh, Muzaffarabad, and Kotli in the disputed region.

The armed conflict between India and Pakistan began after an attack in the Baisaran Valley, Pahalgam, in the Kashmir region under Indian control on April 22, 2025. In that incident, an armed group killed 26 people, 25 of whom were tourists and one was a local horse rider.

India accused Pakistan of being behind the attack by supporting, arming, and training armed groups considered to be sources of unrest in the region. However, Pakistan has stated that it only provides moral and diplomatic support for separatist movements in Kashmir.

Following the attack, India accused a group called the Resistance Front (TRF) of being the perpetrators, claiming that the group received support and protection from Pakistan.
