Global March to Gaza: Four Key Demands for Palestinian Solidarity

4 hours ago 3

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Global March to Gaza action has recently garnered widespread attention, not only in Indonesia but also globally. This international civil society movement aims to demonstrate solidarity with the Palestinian people and call for an end to the violence perpetrated by the Israeli military, particularly in the Gaza Strip.

The Global March to Gaza is a peaceful demonstration where participants from various countries embark on a long journey from the city of Al-Arish in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula to the Rafah border, Gaza's only access point. The primary goal of this action is to demand the permanent opening of humanitarian access and to halt the total blockade that has severely worsened the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

Understanding the Global March to Gaza

The Global March to Gaza is a transnational civil movement dedicated to expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people and urging an end to the blockade and military aggression in the Gaza Strip. This movement is not affiliated with any political institution, international organization, or specific government. Instead, it is driven voluntarily by activists and the general public from diverse backgrounds.

This action emerged as a response to the lack of an international community response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Participants seek to voice moral appeals in the name of universal values such as justice, dignity, and human rights.

By walking over 50 kilometers from Arish to Rafah, participants convey a clear message: the world will not stand idly by the suffering of the Palestinian people. This long march also serves as moral pressure on authorities to take concrete action to open aid access and end the blockade.

Four Main Demands of the Global March to Gaza

The Global March to Gaza is not merely symbolic; it carries strong political and humanitarian messages encapsulated in four main demands. These four points form the core of the action and reflect deep concerns about the conditions in Gaza:

1. Unconditional opening of humanitarian aid access to Gaza.

Access to medical supplies, food, and basic necessities is considered a fundamental right that should not be obstructed by military or political interests. The imposed blockade has caused an acute humanitarian crisis.

2. Cessation of all forms of military aggression and alleged genocide by Israel.

Repeated and widespread acts of violence are considered violations of international law. The high number of civilian casualties, including children and women, exacerbates the humanitarian impact.

3. Full withdrawal of Israeli military forces from the Gaza Strip.

The presence of military forces in Gaza is viewed as an occupation that reinforces instability and exacerbates the conflict. Their withdrawal is deemed crucial to creating a safer environment for civilians.

4. Cessation of colonization practices against Palestine.

Colonization in various forms, including illegal settlement construction and unilateral control over territories, is considered to violate sovereignty principles and undermine long-term peace prospects.
