TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Budi Gunawan announced that the Indonesian government will begin evacuating 386 citizens from Iran starting Friday, June 20, 2025, in response to the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel.
According to Budi, the evacuation will be conducted in multiple phases. “The first stage will begin on June 20, 2025, with 115 Indonesian nationals departing using four buses from Tehran,” said BG in a written statement on Friday.
He added that the government has also prepared contingency measures for evacuating citizens currently located in conflict zones, including overland routes to Baku, Azerbaijan.
Diplomatic communication has also been established. “We urge all Indonesian citizens in Iran to remain calm, follow the instructions of the Indonesian representatives, and immediately report if they need assistance,” he said.
The Coordinating Ministry is working closely with relevant ministries, agencies, and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) to safeguard the well-being of Indonesian nationals in both Iran and Israel.
The government also plans to repatriate citizens from Israel, where around 192 Indonesian nationals are currently residing, according to data from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Most of the Indonesian nationals in both countries are students, and at least 126 have expressed readiness to return home.
TNI spokesperson Major General Kristomei Sianturi said the evacuation from Israel will be conducted via Amman, Jordan.
“The TNI is ready to carry out this task responsibly, to protect the people not only within the country, but also amidst international conflicts,” he stated.
He noted that the military has deployed 34 personnel as part of a Crisis Response Team tasked with evacuating citizens from both Iran and Israel, and has prepared additional support units to assist with the operation.
“The aim is to anticipate the evolving situation and respond to the government’s humanitarian and citizen protection efforts in conflict zones,” Kristomei said.
Tensions between Iran and Israel have sharply escalated since June 13, 2025, when Israeli forces launched a large-scale offensive targeting Iranian nuclear sites and military command centers.
Iranian media reported that as of June 18, Israeli airstrikes had killed 585 people and injured 1,326 in Tehran and other cities.
In retaliation, Iran fired ballistic missiles at Tel Aviv, resulting in 24 deaths and injuring 500 others.
