TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Palestinian resistance group Hamas said on Thursday, October 9, 2025, that they have submitted a list of Palestinians it wishes israel to release. According to a report by Anadolu, the list was submitted after both sides signed the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement proposed by the U.S.
In a statement on Telegram, Hamas said that Israel would release Palestinian citizens through a prisoner exchange, in line with the criteria agreed upon in the ceasefire agreement. The statement added that Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails are a top priority for Hamas.
In an earlier statement, Hamas announced that it had agreed to the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire plan from U.S. President Donald Trump. Hamas declared that an agreement had been reached, which includes ending the war in Gaza, the withdrawal of occupying forces, the entry of humanitarian aid, and an exchange of prisoners.
The group's statement came shortly after Trump announced that Israel and Hamas had signed the first phase of the Gaza agreement proposed by the U.S. The 20-point plan, first announced on September 29, 2025, includes the release of all Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, a ceasefire, the disarmament of Hamas, and the reconstruction of Gaza.
Approximately 250 hostages were taken to Gaza after a cross-border attack by the Palestinian group on October 7, 2023. Tel Aviv estimates that nearly 50 Israeli hostages are still in Gaza, including around 20 believed to still be alive.
U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Hamas have signed the first phase of the peace agreement. "This means that all of the hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their troops to an agreed upon line as the first steps towards a strong, durable and everlasting peace," Trump said through his social media platform, Truth Social.
Trump stated that all parties will be treated fairly. "This is a GREAT Day for the Arab and Muslim World, Israel, all surrounding Nations, and the United States of America, and we thank the mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, who worked with us to make this Historic and Unprecedented Event happen. BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS!" Trump said, as reported by Al Jazeera, Wednesday, October 8, 2025.
A spokesperson for the Qatari Foreign Ministry, Majed al-Ansari, announced that the mediators had reached an agreement. He stated that in the implementation of the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire plan, it would lead to the end of the war, the release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners, and the entry of aid.
