HBO Harry Potter Series: Get to Know the New 3 Cast Members

ACTRESS Arabella Stanton has been cast as Hermione Granger in HBO's Harry Potter series. She stars in the series alongside Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. According to Forbes, Arabella Stanton previously played Matilda Wormwood in Matilda the Musical from 2023 to 2024.

Thanks to her role, she was highlighted for her stage performance and ability to get into the role. Stanton has also starred in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Starlight Express as the narrator Control at the Wembley Park Theatre in Wembley, England.

In the previous film version, the iconic character Harry Potter was played by Daniel Radcliffe, with Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley, and Emma Watson as Hermione Granger.

Main Cast

HBO has announced the three main casts for the Harry Potter television series adapted from the legendary fantasy novel by J.K. Rowling. The audition process was rigorous and massive, attended by more than 32 thousand children from various countries.

Variety reported on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, that the production team assessed 500 to 1,000 audition tapes every day to find the right person to play the iconic wizarding trio: Harry, Hermione, and Ron. "After an incredible search led by Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are proud to introduce the cast of Harry, Hermione, and Ron," said creative and managerial leader (showrunner) Francesca Gardiner and executive producer Mark Mylod.

Francesca Gardiner said she wanted to see the new cast immediately. "We can't wait for the world to see their magic together on screen," she said.

New Cast Careers

The main cast of this series are still fresh in the acting world. Dominic McLaughlin (Harry Potter) previously appeared in the comedy Grow. Arabella Stanton (Hermione Granger) once played Matilda in the West End musical. Alastair Stout (Ron Weasley) has no professional acting experience at all.

In addition to the three main characters, the series also stars John Lithgow (Albus Dumbledore), Paapa Essiedu (Severus Snape), Janet McTeer (Professor McGonagall), Nick Frost (Hagrid), Paul Whitehouse (Argus Filch), Luke Thallon (Professor Quirrell).

HBO plans to adapt all seven books in the Harry Potter series into seven seasons of a television series. Each season will feature one book, from Sorcerer's Stone to Deathly Hallows.

The Harry Potter series project developed by HBO is still in its early stages. Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav said in February 2024 that his party was targeting a premiere in 2026. However, the plan is not final, quoted from TV Guide.

In December 2024, a new statement from JB Perrette, President and CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery for global streaming and gaming services. In a press conference, Perrette hinted that the new Harry Potter series will premiere in 2027. "As you look out into 2026 and into 2027, you're starting a 10-year journey of the Harry Potter series that I think is probably going to be the biggest event when we get to it."
