TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Dozens of neighborhood units (RT) in East Jakarta, Indonesia, were inundated by floods on Monday, August 4, 2025. The heavy rain that hit Jakarta and its surrounding areas caused inundation in at least 15 residential areas from the afternoon until night. In certain areas, the floodwater reached a height of 50 to 100 centimeters (1 meter).
The Head of the Data and Information Center (Kapusdatin) of the Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Mohamad Yohan, said that the water level in several waterways rose since 3 p.m. yesterday. "Causing several inundations in the Jakarta area," said Yohan in a written statement on Monday night, August 4, 2025.
BPBD recorded inundations in 15 residential areas and 1 road section. Here are the details of the affected areas in East Jakarta from last night:
Pondok Bambu Sub-district: 1 residential area
- Height: 50 centimeters
- Cause: High Precipitation and Sunter River Overflow
Cipinang Muara Sub-district: 2 residential areas
- Height: 100 centimeters
- Cause: High Precipitation and Sunter River Overflow
Kampung Tengah Sub-district: 1 residential area
- Height: 30 centimeters
- Cause: High Precipitation
Cipinang Melayu Sub-district: 8 residential areas
- Height: 60 centimeters
- Cause: High Precipitation and Sunter River Overflow
Kebon Pala Sub-district: 2 residential areas
- Height: 30 centimeters
- Cause: High Precipitation and Cipinang River Overflow
Makasar Sub-district: 1 residential area
- Height: 30 centimeters
- Cause: High Precipitation and Cipinang River Overflow
Flooded Road: 1 road section consisting of:
- Jl. Raya Cipinang Indah (SMK Penabur Landmark Point), Pondok Bambu Sub-district, East Jakarta
Height: 10 centimeters
BPBD Jakarta noted that until early Tuesday, August 5 at 00:00 WIB, all inundations had subsided. However, BPBD's Kapusdatin Yohan still urged the public to be alert to the potential for inundations.
Based on the data report from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the weather in the Jakarta area is generally predicted to have light rain on Tuesday, August 5, 2025. Central, South, East, and West Jakarta are expected to have light rain today. Meanwhile, North Jakarta and Thousand Islands are predicted to be cloudy.
