TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed on Sunday, June 22, 2025, that no increase in radiation levels has been detected outside the reported locations following the attack on three nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow.
"IAEA will provide further assessments on situation in Iran as more information becomes available," said the UN nuclear watchdog.
In response to the escalating crisis, IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi announced that an emergency meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors will be convened on Monday, June 23, 2025. "In light of the urgent situation in Iran, I am convening an emergency meeting of the @IAEAorg Board of Governors for tomorrow," Grossi wrote in a post on X on Sunday, June 22.
The regional situation has significantly deteriorated after U.S. President Donald Trump announced that American forces carried out a "very successful" air attack on three Iranian nuclear sites. This action comes amid growing concerns of a wider conflict in the Middle East.
Hostilities initially erupted on June 13 when Israel launched airstrikes on various locations across Iran, including military and nuclear facilities. This prompted Tehran to launch retaliatory strikes.
According to Israeli authorities, at least 25 people have been killed and hundreds more injured by Iran's missile attacks since the initial escalation.
Conversely, the Iranian Ministry of Health reports that 430 people have been killed and over 3,500 injured in Israel's attacks within Iran.
