TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Indofood CBP Sukses Makmur Tbk (ICBP) has responded to the discovery of ethylene oxide in Indomie Soto Banjar Limau Kulit instant noodles sold in Taiwan. The company stated that the product was imported by a third party, not by Indofood's official distributor.

Indofood Corporate Secretary Gideon A. Putro confirmed that the Indomie Soto Banjar Limau Kulit variant is not marketed in or exported to Taiwan. "To date, this variant is not marketed in or exported to Taiwan," he said in a disclosure to the Indonesia Stock Exchange on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.

Gideon stated that all instant noodle products produced by Indofood in Indonesia comply with food safety standards set by the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM). Additionally, Indofood's instant noodles meet the Codex Standard for Instant Noodles and have received Indonesian National Standard (SNI) certification. They are also produced in facilities certified with the ISO 22000 International Standard or FSSC 22000 for Food Safety Management Systems.

Gideon added that food safety regulations can differ across countries. "The company consistently complies with food safety regulations and provisions in Indonesia for each export destination country, including Taiwan," he said.

He confirmed that Indofood is coordinating with BPOM and Taiwanese authorities to monitor the situation, adding that the incident will not have a material impact on the company. "This incident has not had a material impact on the company's operational activities or financial performance," Gideon stated.

Previously, BPOM announced that it had received information from the Taiwanese government about the Indofood product. "BPOM has received a report and explanation from the manufacturer that the product found does not meet Taiwanese requirements," BPOM said in a written statement on Saturday, September 13, 2025.

BPOM explained that the finding occurred because Taiwan requires total ethylene oxide (EtO) levels to be undetectable in food products. This standard differs from those in other countries, including the United States, the European Union, and Indonesia, which separate the requirements for EtO from those for 2-chloroethanol (2-CE) as the analyte, rather than setting a total EtO limit. To date, the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC), an international organization under the WHO/FAO, has not yet set a maximum EtO residue limit.
