Indonesia Advises Against Traveling to 5 Middle East Countries Amid Tensions

9 hours ago 4

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government has advised Indonesian citizens against traveling to Iran, Israel, Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen. This request was conveyed by Judha Nugraha, the director for Citizen Protection at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, following the escalation of the Israel-Iran war.

"We strongly urge to postpone such trips," Judha said in a video statement on Thursday, June 19, 2025.

Judha called on Indonesian citizens seeking to travel to the Middle East to check their flight schedules with their respective airlines. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also asked Indonesian citizens to disrupt flight schedules.

Israel launched a large-scale attack on Iran since June 13, 2025, targeting nuclear facilities and high military command centers across several cities. The Human Rights Activist News Agency (HRANA) stated that Israel's missile attacks on Iran have killed 639 people and injured another 1,329. The organization said that 263 of those killed were civilians and 154 were military personnel. In Israel, so far 24 people have been killed due to Iran's attacks, with 838 injured.

The unprecedented conflict between the two nations raised global concerns about the possibility of a world war. The boiling tension has also shaken regional stability, which was first hit by the spillover effects of the genocide in Gaza.

Responding to the conflict in the region, Foreign Minister Sugiono has raised the alert status of the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran to Level I.

Indonesia has implemented contingency measures and evacuation for Indonesian citizens in Iran. Sugiono said there are about 380 Indonesian citizens in Iran, especially in Tehran.

Sugiono stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also maintained communication with neighboring countries of Iran to facilitate cross-border access in case of evacuation.

Judha Nugraha also revealed that there are about 194 Indonesian citizens residing in Israel, with eleven of them requesting to be evacuated after the escalation of the Israel-Iran war in recent days.
