TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Communication and Digital is targeting 9 million digital talents in Indonesia by 2030, coinciding with the peak of the productive age demographic bonus. This target will be achieved through the Digital Talent Scholarship (DTS) training programs, especially for young people.

The ministry is coordinating with leading tech companies such as Huawei, Microsoft, Google, and Meta to formulate methods, materials, and a roadmap for the implementation of the program.

"These global tech companies will play a role in providing information to the Ministry of Communication and Digital about the developments in the world of technology and the current field conditions," said Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital, Nezar Patria, at the Digital Talent Forum in Jakarta, on Friday, October 17, 2025.

By 2030, Indonesia is expected to experience a demographic bonus, where 64-68 percent, or approximately 208 million of its population will be dominated by the productive age group (15-60 years).

The Ministry of Communication and Digital has previously established a matchmaking portal called Diploy.id (Digital Employment) for participants who have completed the Digital Talent Scholarship. The portal is expected to bridge the participants from the Digital Talent Scholarship to the industrial world.

The ministry understands that the young generation currently does not possess sufficient capability to meet market demands.

The Head of the Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM) at the ministry, Boni Pudjianto, stated this initiative would not be an easy task, especially with only 5 years left. "It is not easy to achieve 600,000 digital talents each year for the next 5 years," said Boni, adding that the ministry is moving swiftly and effectively to achieve this goal.

Nezar also proposed that the Digital Talent Forum, held in collaboration with certification authorities, training centers, and training tech providers, should be conducted every 6 months to gain insights.

"The goal of conducting this program regularly is to obtain data and a broad overview of the training program, in order to stay updated with the industry's needs," said Nezar.

The Digital Talent Scholarship (DTS) program was first announced by the Ministry of Communication and Digital in 2018 and is carried out through the Digital Communication and Digital Human Resources Development Agency.

According to the records of the Ministry of Communication and Digital, there are currently more than 400,000 participants who have graduated from the program from 2019 to 2023. The DTS has several academic levels, including the Fresh Graduate Academy (FGA), Professional Academy (PA), Talent Scouting Academy (TSA), and Digital Leadership Academy (DLA).
