TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian women’s singles shuttler Putri Kusuma Wardani secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open 2025 after defeating Taiwan’s Wen Chi Hsu 21-15, 21-10 at Quaycentre, Olympic Boulevard, on Thursday, November 20, 2025.
The tournament’s second seed delivered a far steadier performance than in her previous meeting with Hsu at the Indonesia Masters earlier this year, where she lost in a three-game battle.
Putri said that defeat became an important lesson heading into Thursday’s match.
“Overall, I’m happy I could play the way I wanted. Since I lost to her in a rubber game before, I tried to stay relaxed on court, remain calm, and minimize my own errors,” Putri said in a statement released by the Indonesian Badminton Association (PP PBSI).
Putri will next face another Taiwanese player, Chen Su Yu, in the quarterfinals. She noted that she has never faced Chen in an official match and plans to approach the encounter with caution.
“I’ve never played her before, so I will stay alert and study her game,” she said.
Chen advanced to the last eight after defeating fellow Taiwanese shuttler Chiu Pin-Chian 21-19, 20-22, 21-15.
Before concluding her remarks, Putri also highlighted the progress of Indonesia’s younger women’s singles players, mentioning juniors such as Kadek Dhinda and Thalita, who she said continue to show strong work ethic in training and competition.
“They have great potential. I hope they stay motivated, keep developing their skills, and don’t lose their fighting spirit,” she said.
