TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) under the Ministry of Finance has removed American technology company Grammarly from the list of Value Added Tax (VAT) collectors for trading through electronic systems, known as VAT on PMSE.
As of the end of January 2026, DJP had recorded 242 companies as VAT on PMSE collectors.
“During this period, there was one revocation of VAT on PMSE collector data, namely Grammarly. In addition, the government has also made one change in VAT on PMSE collector data, namely BetterMe Limited,” said Inge Diana Rismawanti, Director of Outreach, Service, and Public Relations at DJP, in an official statement on Friday, February 27, 2026.
VAT on PMSE collectors are businesses appointed by DJP to collect VAT on intangible goods or the use of foreign electronic services sold to Indonesian consumers.
Companies are designated as collectors if their transaction value with Indonesian buyers exceeds Rp600 million per year or Rp50 million per month. A second criterion is reaching traffic or access from Indonesia exceeding 12,000 annually.
As of January 31, 2026, DJP reported that 223 of the appointed PMSE collectors had collected and deposited VAT. The total digital tax payment in this category reached Rp36.69 trillion.
The breakdown of VAT on PMSE payments is as follows: Rp731.4 billion in 2020, Rp3.9 trillion in 2021, Rp5.51 trillion in 2022, Rp6.76 trillion in 2023, Rp8.44 trillion in 2024, Rp10.32 trillion in 2025, and Rp1.02 trillion in 2026.
Overall, DJP recorded total digital tax payments of Rp47.18 trillion up to January 31, 2026. This includes VAT on PMSE at Rp36.69 trillion and crypto tax at Rp1.93 trillion.
Additional contributions came from fintech tax, which generated Rp4.47 trillion, and other digital economy businesses under the SIPP Tax, which brought in Rp4.1 trillion through January 2026.
