Indonesia's Solo Hosts Running Event in Solidarity with Palestine

1 day ago 2

TEMPO.CO, Solo - The Run For Liberation 2025 running event took place in Solo, Central Java, Indonesia, on Sunday, June 1, 2025. The event is more than just a running activity; it is also a show of solidarity with the people of Palestine.

In addition to the morning run, which was participated in by about 250 people of various ages and backgrounds, the Run For Liberation series in Solo was also enlivened by a humanitarian stage.

The Chairperson of the Run For Liberation event, Muhammad Salman, stated that the event is a major agenda initiated by SMART 171, an organization involved in various actions in support of Palestine. The organization is based in Bandung.

During the event, SMART 171 collaborated with various humanitarian organizations and youth mosque communities. The activity also received support from dozens of local communities from 15 cities, including Jakarta, Bandung, Solo, Bogor, Medan, Blitar, and South Sulawesi.

"Through this series of activities, we invite all Indonesians to take real action for the people of Palestine. The event will be held virtually and in each respective area, including Solo," he said.

Various Action Activities

He explained that the solidarity action for the people of Palestine organized by SMART 171 and other organizations is carried out through various activities, with expanded targets. "For example, runners can participate in a running event, artists can express their solidarity through art, and those who can give a speech or only afford to donate can do so," he said.

He hopes they can use this momentum to raise public awareness of the Palestinian people's plight. In the Run For Liberation event, participants covered a distance of more than 5 kilometers.

A representative from the Nur Al Aqsa Indonesia Foundation (NAQI), Sheikh Mohammed Rateeb Ar-Rifa'i, stated that the Palestinians still suffer from prolonged conflict. He pointed out that they find it difficult to obtain food and drink.

"Unlike us here, the Palestinian people, from children to the elderly, struggle to find food and drink when they wake up. Our brethren there are bombed and operated on without anesthesia. Their resources are very, very limited," he said.
