TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called on Indonesian citizens in the Middle East to remain vigilant and monitor the security situation following the escalation of conflict between Iran, Israel, and the United States.
In a written statement on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, as quoted by Antara, Judha Nugraha, Director of the Protection of Indonesian Citizens Abroad, urged citizens to follow instructions from local authorities, reduce non-essential travel, and "avoid locations of conflicting state assets."
"The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and all Indonesian Representatives in the Middle East continue to closely monitor the escalation of conflict between Israel, the U.S., and Iran," Judha said.
He also reminded Indonesian citizens residing in the Middle East to register online on the website peduliwni.kemlu.go.id and ensure their data is up-to-date.
Furthermore, Judha requested Indonesian citizens planning to travel through Middle Eastern airspace to anticipate possible flight delays and disruptions due to airspace closures. "Always confirm your flight schedule with the airline," he advised.
In case of emergencies in the Middle East, he urged citizens to immediately contact the nearest Indonesian Representative or access the emergency button in the Safe Travel application provided by the Foreign Affairs Ministry. The phone line of the Directorate of the Protection of Indonesian Citizens on WhatsApp at +62 812-9007-0027 is also available for assistance.
Tensions between Iran and Israel have escalated since Friday, June 13, 2025, when Israel carried out airstrikes in several locations in Iran, including military and nuclear facilities. This prompted Tehran to launch a retaliatory attack on the same day.
The situation was further exacerbated by the U.S. involvement, which attacked three Iranian nuclear facilities on Saturday in an operation President Donald Trump claimed was "very successful." Iran then retaliated by firing missiles at the U.S. Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar on Monday night or early Tuesday, June 24, 2025.
The escalating tensions in Iran prompted Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono to raise the security alert status at the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran from Alert 2 to Alert 1, greenlighting the evacuation of Indonesian citizens from the country. A total of 97 people evacuated by the Indonesian government from Iran last weekend are expected to arrive in Indonesia on Tuesday afternoon.
