TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The governments of Indonesia and the United States are exploring opportunities to collaborate on technology to support national digital transformation. The focus of the discussion between the two countries' representatives on May 27, 2025, covered connectivity, strengthening data centers, and cyber resilience.
Indonesian Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital, Angga Raka Prabowo, who met with U.S. Ambassador Steve Lang in Jakarta, emphasized the importance of global partnerships to support the development of the national digital ecosystem. "Strategic international cooperation, including with the U.S., is very important," he said in a written statement by the Ministry of Communication and Digital, on Thursday, May 29, 2025.
According to Angga, the Indonesian government aims to build a robust, inclusive, and sovereign digital ecosystem. To achieve this, the connectivity infrastructure must be strengthened. For example, the submarine communication cable system (SKKL) and satellites must be developed. Both of these projects are the backbone of cross-border data access.
"SKKL will connect directly to data centers to ensure efficient digital content routes and strengthen national connectivity sovereignty," he said.
Angga, who also welcomed U.S. Economic Advisor Jonathan Habjan and representatives of the U.S. Department of State, Lyle Goode, touched on the importance of cyber resilience. Indonesia and the U.S. are aware of the importance of protecting the telecommunications and broadband sectors.
Cybersecurity is considered a cross-border issue that cannot be addressed by a single country. "We welcome the U.S. initiative to strengthen collaboration in this area," said Angga.
Angga further stated that Indonesia also encourages the growth of the data center industry by opening up investments and harmonizing regulations. The government is pushing for data centers to be recognized as a strategic industry. As such, data centers will receive fiscal incentives, be directly connected to SKKL, and have access to efficient energy sources.
