TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The animated film Jumbo, created by Visinema Studios, has officially become the best-selling Indonesian film of all time. Within just 60 days of its release on the national cinema network, Jumbo has reached an astounding 10 million viewers. This achievement surpasses the previous record held by KKN di Desa Penari (2022), which took over 90 days to reach a similar viewership.
The news of this achievement was officially announced through the official Instagram account of Jumbo on Friday, May 30, 2025. The account posted, "A simple story celebrated by more than 10,000,000 hearts. A number that once felt far away, now becomes real, thanks to those of you who believe that even a small story can mean a lot when delivered with all your heart."
They also expressed their gratitude for this success, adding, "Thank you for growing with us, crying, laughing, and being part of JUMBO." Currently, Jumbo is still being shown in various cinema networks across Indonesia.
A New Milestone for Indonesian Animated Films
According to a press release received by Tempo on the same day, beyond breaking the national record, Jumbo is also recognized as the most-viewed animated film in Southeast Asia. This achievement even surpasses Hollywood animated films that screened in Indonesia during four long holiday periods. The film marks an important moment for the Indonesian animation industry, which has historically had a limited presence in the local market.
"The achievement of Jumbo could not have been reached and gone this far without real support from the audience and the Indonesian family," said Herry B. Salim, CEO of Visinema Studios. He added that Visinema Studios always believes that good work will find a good place among its enthusiasts.
Ryan Adriandhy, the writer and director of Jumbo, described this accomplishment as a blessing and the result of hard work from many parties. "This is thanks to prayers, hard work, and belief not only from the creators but also from the audience and the Indonesian family who also have a stake in Jumbo," he said.
Ryan expressed his joy in being able to create history with many people who feel a sense of ownership of his work. "Hopefully, Jumbo will live longer in your hearts," he added.

On the same day, through his X (formerly Twitter) account, Ryan Adriandhy reminisced about his long-held dream: "A boy dreamed in 1994. That’s the only thing he knew how to do. That boy woke up one day; being grateful that this is true. Thank you everyone. Please dream bigger than that kid. May God blesses you with what you need. Alhamdulillah."
The Story of the Child and the Fairytale Book
First screened on March 31, Jumbo is the result of a collaboration involving over 420 Indonesian creators. The production process spanned five years, beginning in 2019. The 1-hour, 42-minute film follows the story of Don (Prince Poetiray), a child who deeply cherishes a fairytale book left by his father (voiced by Ariel NOAH) and mother (Bunga Citra Lestari). After his parents' passing, Don is raised by his grandmother (Ratna Riantiarno).
Don befriends Nurman (Yusuf Ozkan) and Mae (Graciella Abigail). When his fairytale book is stolen by Atta (M. Adhiyat), Don meets Meri (Quinn Salman), a girl from another world in search of her parents (Ariyo Wahab and Cinta Laura Kiehl). This encounter marks the beginning of Don's adventure.
Following its success in the domestic market, Jumbo is set to be screened internationally starting June 2025. The first countries targeted for distribution are Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei Darussalam. Additionally, the film is scheduled to be screened in several Central Asian and European countries, including Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia (including Abkhazia and South Ossetia), Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.
