TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian police are investigating the death of a Brazilian climber, JDSP, who fell into Mount Rinjani ravine in Lombok. The Head of the Public Relations Bureau of the NTB Regional Police, Grand Commissioner Mohammad Kholid, said the investigation aims to determine the cause of the tragedy that claimed the life of the 27-year-old woman.

"The Regional Police team is conducting an investigation together with the NTB Regional Criminal Investigation Department," Kholid told Tempo on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.

Kholid said several officers have been dispatched to the location where the tourist fell into the Mount Rinjani ravine, and the police will question several witnesses in the incident.

The climber was reported to have fallen into a ravine approximately 600 meters deep while hiking in Mount Rinjani. The Brazilian climber was found dead when rescuers found her.

"No signs of life were detected upon initial examination," said the Head of the Mataram SAR Office, Hariyadi, as quoted from Antara.

The confirmation of the victim's death was strengthened after three other personnel descended and confirmed the victim's condition, and evacuation soon began. "Following this discovery, rescuers at the last known position (LKP) where the victim was last seen immediately kickstarted the evacuation process," he said.

Seven personnel carried out a flying camp or stayed around the location, with three people at the second anchor point (400 meters deep) and four others beside the victim (600 meters deep).

The decision to postpone the evacuation was due to unfavorable weather conditions and very limited visibility. The evacuation process resumed on Wednesday morning, June 25, 2025. JDSP's evacuation was carried out by lifting and then carrying her along the climbing route towards the Sembalun Post.

Upon arrival, the body of the Brazilian climber was evacuated by helicopter to the NTB Bhayangkara Hospital for further handling.
