TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police Headquarters has confirmed that regional police forces are investigating the looting of several public officials' homes, which have occurred over a number of days in various parts of Jakarta.
"The Regional Police have conducted an inventory. We have already consolidated the information and will provide updates on the progress," said Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, Head of the Public Information Bureau of the National Police Headquarters' Public Relations Division, on Monday, September 1, 2025.
Looting Targets Include Lawmakers and Finance Minister
The homes of several House of Representatives (DPR) members, including Ahmad Sahroni, Uya Kuya, and Eko Patrio, were targeted, as was the residence of Finance Minister Sri Mulyani.
According to reports, a crowd began to ransack Ahmad Sahroni's house in North Jakarta on Saturday evening, around 5:30 p.m. They looted numerous items, including furniture, electronics, cash, watches, and a safe containing dollar bills. The crowd also damaged a luxury car parked in the garage. The incident was live-streamed on TikTok, where viewers encouraged others to continue the looting at the houses of Eko Patrio and Uya Kuya.
Subsequently, hundreds of people gathered at the homes of Eko Patrio in South Jakarta and Uya Kuya in East Jakarta. In the middle of the night, they took all belongings, including pets, from these houses.
Early on Sunday, August 31, 2025, hundreds of people also stormed Sri Mulyani's house in South Tangerang, Banten, damaging and looting various possessions.
According to Joko Sutrisno, the house's security guard, the looting occurred in two waves, around 1 a.m. and two hours later. He stated that the minister was not home at the time, and he and a relative were relocated to a neighbor's house before the crowd arrived.
Joko also confirmed that no one was injured, and no vehicles were damaged, "because they were not there at the time," he told Antara on Sunday.
Police in each affected area are actively pursuing the perpetrators. The East Jakarta Metropolitan District Police have already arrested nine suspects.
"Of course, the other perpetrators are currently being identified by our team. Please be patient," said Commissioner Dicky Fertoffan, Chief of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the East Jakarta Metropolitan District Police, to Tempo on Monday, September 1, 2025.
