TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Professionalism and Security Division (Propam) of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) has found criminal elements in the actions of two police officers inside a tactical vehicle that ran over an online motorcycle taxi (ojol) driver. The two officers facing criminal charges are Police Commissioner Cosmas Kaju Gae and Chief Brigadier Rohmat.
The Head of Professionalism Supervision, Investigation, and Guidance Bureau (Wabprof) of the Indonesian National Police, Brigadier General Agus Wijayanto, stated that both officers were seated in the front. Rohmat was the driver, while Cosmas was the commanding officer. The police will hold a hearing on Tuesday, September 2, 2035. "This hearing is conducted because, from the examination, it was found that there were criminal elements in the serious violation of the code of ethics," said Agus at the National Police Headquarters on Monday, September 1, 2025.
Police Commissioner Cosmas and Brigadier Rohmat are suspected of violating the serious category of the police code of ethics, with the possibility of facing dishonorable discharge. The decision on ethical sanctions will be made during the ethics hearing on Wednesday and Thursday, September 3-4, 2025.
Meanwhile, five other members seated in the back are suspected of committing a moderate ethical violation. They are First Brigadier Danang, Second Brigadier Mardin, Chief Brigadier Jana Edi, Chief Brigadier Yohanes David, and Second Inspector M Rohyani. He mentioned that a moderate ethical violation could lead to demotion or transfer. "The decision will be determined during the ethics hearing," he said.
Previously, the Head of the Propam Polri, Inspector General Abdul Karim, mentioned that the examination had been conducted since Friday, August 29, 2025. The Propam stated that the seven individuals were found to have violated the police code of ethics. Abdul Karim said that they had been assigned to a special placement by their institution for the incident involving the running over of the ojol driver using a Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) tactical vehicle.
"We have agreed on this and the result is a comprehensive recommendation, which we have also conveyed to the National Police Commission and the National Human Rights Commission," said Karim at the National Police Headquarters in South Jakarta, on Friday, August 29, 2025. After being found to have violated the code of ethics, they will be placed in a special assignment at the National Police Headquarters for 20 days.
The Brimob tactical vehicle hit the ojol driver, Affan Kurniawan, during the turmoil following the protest in front of the House of Representatives (DPR) building. The incident took place in the area in front of the Bendungan Hilir II flats.
Based on a video received by Tempo, it is evident that the Brimob vehicle continued to move forward despite the victim lying on the ground. Several protesters were seen attempting to chase and stop the vehicle. In addition to running over the protesters, the police also fired tear gas towards the flats.
