TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The coach of the Indonesian U-17 national team, Nova Arianto, emphasized that his players should not be satisfied with their performance in the Independence Cup 2025. He confirmed that the promotion and relegation system for players will continue during the upcoming training camp in Bulgaria.
The Indonesian U-17 team is scheduled to train in Bulgaria from September 1 to 14, 2025.
"The promotion-relegation system will certainly continue, including during our training camp in Bulgaria. We plan to hold three trials there," Nova said, as quoted by Skor.id.
The Independence Cup 2025 served as a preparation trial for I Putu Panji and his teammates ahead of the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2025 in Qatar, which will take place from November 3 to 27. Nova will assess the team's performance and evaluate each player, considering recruiting new talents to strengthen the squad.
Nova also outlined the September training camp program. He noted the importance of facing opponents with different playing styles to simulate conditions similar to those expected in the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
The Indonesian U-17 team finished as runner-up in the Independence Cup 2025 after losing 1-2 to Mali in the final at the Utama Stadium in North Sumatra, Deli Serdang, on Monday, August 18, 2025.
The Garuda Muda squad collected four points overall, while Mali won the tournament with a perfect nine points from three matches.
During the Independence Cup, Mathew Baker and his teammates faced Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Mali. In the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2025, Indonesia will be in Group H alongside Brazil, Honduras, and Zambia.
Nova also mentioned that the team is still waiting for the arrival of three diaspora players: Lucas Lee, Nicholas Mjosund, and Mike Rajasa.
"Hopefully, they can all join so I can once again evaluate if the team composition is strong," said the former Persib Bandung defender.
