TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian tourists are now able to enjoy trips to China for up to 10 days without needing a visa, thanks to a newly introduced visa-free transit policy. The Chinese government officially implemented this new rule on Thursday, June 12, 2025.
The announcement was made on the official website of China’s National Immigration Administration. “Starting from June 12, 2025, Indonesian citizens can take advantage of the 240-hour visa-free transit policy to travel comfortably to China,” the statement read.
Visa-Free Transit Requirements
Indonesia is among 55 countries included in China’s visa-free transit program. To take advantage of this facility, Indonesian nationals must fulfill several requirements.
1. Valid Passport or Travel Document
Travelers must carry a valid passport or another recognized international travel document. The passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the intended date of entry into China and must contain at least two blank pages for visa stamps. It's also important that the passport has space for visa stamps of onward destinations.
2. Confirmed Ticket to Another Country
Tourists must show proof of a confirmed ticket to a third country, complete with a fixed departure date and seat reservation. This departure date must fall within 10 days of their entry into China. For instance, Indonesian travelers entering China must already have a ticket booked to destinations such as Singapore or South Korea.
3. Entry Through Approved Ports
Entry into China must be done through one of the designated border ports approved for visa-free transit. There are currently 60 such access points across 24 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities, including major hubs like Beijing and Shanghai.
During their stay, visitors are allowed to remain within designated areas and participate in activities such as tourism, business engagements, or visiting family and friends. However, Indonesians seeking to work, study, conduct interviews, or report as journalists must still apply for a visa in advance.
A Boost for Regional Cooperation
A spokesperson for the National Immigration Administration explained that including Indonesia in the visa-free transit scheme reflects China’s broader goals of enhancing regional ties.
According to the official, the initiative is part of efforts to strengthen regional cooperation and align with the outcomes of the Conference on Peripheral Work
“This will help enhance good cooperation and exchanges between China and Indonesia, promoting easier and more efficient trade and investment, and fostering mutual learning between civilizations and intercultural exchanges,” the statement on the website said.
The Chinese government also pledged to further optimize its immigration procedures and entry-exit policies to improve convenience for foreign travelers. These measures are part of a larger push to attract more international tourists and investors to the country.
