TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Gaza’s Civil Defense official, Mohammed Al-Mughayyir, reported on Thursday, October 9, 2025, that Israeli airstrikes had resumed across several parts of the Palestinian territory just hours after an agreement between Hamas and Israel was announced.
The renewed attacks came despite both parties agreeing to the first phase of a U.S.-brokered peace plan for Gaza.
On Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Hamas had signed the initial stage of the Gaza peace agreement. Hamas later confirmed the deal, which includes ending the war in the enclave, the withdrawal of Israeli forces, the delivery of humanitarian aid, and a prisoner exchange.
“Since the ceasefire framework was announced last night, several explosions have been reported, particularly in areas of northern Gaza, including a series of intense airstrikes on Gaza City,” Al-Mughayyir told reporters, as quoted by Antara.
Medical sources told Anadolu that four civilians were injured in Israeli attacks targeting areas in the Zeitoun neighborhood of Gaza City. Smoke was seen rising from several of the strike locations.
In southern Gaza, the Israeli army reportedly fired on multiple areas in Khan Younis, injuring three people. Fighter jets and artillery also struck the Tel Hawa and Sabra neighborhoods in Gaza City. Eyewitnesses described heavy and continuous bombardment, though casualty figures remain unclear.
The latest escalation occurred despite the ceasefire agreement reached earlier on Thursday between Hamas and Israel in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, based on the peace plan proposed by Trump.
The 20-point plan, first outlined on September 29, calls for the release of all Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian detainees, a ceasefire, the disarmament of Hamas, and the reconstruction of Gaza.
Since October 2023, Israeli military operations have killed nearly 67,200 Palestinians in the enclave, most of them women and children. The relentless bombardment has left much of Gaza in ruins, with widespread hunger and disease compounding the humanitarian crisis.
