TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Cathedral has prepared thousands of seats for the congregation seeking to attend the Holy Week services. This weekend, the Cathedral is holding services for Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Eve.
Jakarta Cathedral has set up seating areas inside and in the church yard for these services. "Overall, there are approximately 5,000 seats, including the reserved seats," said Susyana Suwadie, a public relations officer at Jakarta Cathedral, on Friday, April 3, 2026.
According to Susyana, the indoor area of the church has a capacity of around 800 seats with an additional 500 seats at Maria Plaza and Maria's Cave.
Jakarta Cathedral will also utilize Graha Pemuda with a capacity of 800 people. Meanwhile, an additional tent in front of the main church entrance is equipped with around 3,000 seats.
Susyana remarked that churchgoers need to register if they want to enter the church area and Graha Pemuda on the first floor due to limited space. Congregants who come without registration can still attend mass in the provided tent, Maria Plaza, or the fourth floor of Graha Pemuda.
"For the 11:00 a.m. family mass and the 5:00 p.m. Easter evening mass, there is no need to register for the church area and the first floor of Graha Pemuda," stated Susyana.
The Jakarta Metro Police will deploy 4,500 personnel to secure the Easter 2026 celebrations. The police will distribute these personnel in several churches, crowded areas, and worship centers during Easter.
Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metro Police, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, stated that they have prepared thousands of personnel to ensure safety during the celebrations.
Budi explained that the police have prepared layered security, from sanitizing the places of worship, traffic diversion, to regular patrols around the churches, which he said will allow Christians to carry out their worship safely and comfortably.
