TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The coach of the Japanese national team, Hajime Moriyasu, gives special attention to the captain of the Indonesian national team, Jay Idzes, ahead of the final match of Group C Qualification for the 2026 World Cup in the Asia zone. The match will take place at the Suita City Stadium, Osaka, on Tuesday, June 10, 2025.
Moriyasu admitted that Indonesia is a very solid team and Jay Idzes is at the core of the solidity in the Garuda team's defense line. "Jay plays very well in the back line. I want the players to focus on scoring goals and penetrating the defense," he said in a press conference before the match.
In the first meeting held at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Jakarta, in November 2024, Japan won convincingly 4-0 against Indonesia. When asked about the threat from Indonesia's forward line, including the naturalized striker, Ole Romeny, Moriyasu refused to only focus on one player.
Moriyasu also emphasized that Japan has undergone thorough preparations. He still sees the match against Indonesia as a challenge on the journey to the final round. "In my view, it's not just one player, but several players who have the ability to score goals. We have to be responsible for every player and remain organized as a team to stop not just one player, but the entire team," he said.
The match between Japan and Indonesia will be held at the Suita City Stadium, Osaka Prefecture. The match is no longer crucial for both teams in the struggle to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. Japan has already secured qualification to the final round of the 2026 World Cup by locking the top spot in Group C, while Indonesia has secured a spot in the fourth round by securing the fourth position in the final standings of Group C.
