Joe Biden Undergoes Radiation Therapy for Prostate Cancer

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former U.S. President Joe Biden is currently undergoing radiation therapy following his diagnosis of prostate cancer in May, his spokesperson confirmed on Saturday, October 11, 2025.

As part of a treatment plan for prostate cancer, President Biden is currently undergoing radiation therapy and hormone treatment,” the spokesperson said, as quoted by Al Arabiya.

Biden, who turns 83 next month, underwent Mohs surgery in September to remove cancerous skin cells. He had previously revealed in May that he was battling metastatic prostate cancer, an aggressive but hormone-sensitive form of the disease that gives him a strong chance of successful treatment.

During his presidency, Biden also had a skin cancer lesion removed from his chest, according to an earlier White House statement. In February 2023, then-White House physician Kevin O’Connor reported that biopsies from a routine health exam had detected cancerous cells, all of which were completely excised.

According to Fox News, Biden has made cancer treatment a personal priority. Together with former First Lady Jill Biden, he revitalized the Cancer Moonshot initiative, which seeks to accelerate research and cut cancer-related deaths by 50 percent within the next 25 years.

Biden’s health challenges date back decades. In 1988, at age 45, he survived two life-threatening brain aneurysms while serving as a U.S. senator from Delaware

Doctors at the time gave him only a 50 percent chance of survival, but both surgeries were successful, and he has not reported any recurrences since.

In contrast, current U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed to be in “excellent health.” According to a memo released by the White House on Friday, October 10, Trump recently underwent a routine physical examination at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
