Marselino Ferdinand Debuts for Oxford United in Championship, Ole Romeny as Starter

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Marselino Ferdinan finally made his debut for Oxford United in a 3-3 draw against home team Swansea City in the final match of the Championship, at Swansea.com Stadium, on Saturday, May 3, 2025.

Marselino entered the game in the 77th minute, replacing Ole Romeny who had been playing since the first minute. Sofascore recorded Marselino making seven touches, five passes with 100 percent accuracy, two ground duels won, and one successful tackle.

The match against Swansea was the fifth game in which the 20-year-old player was included in Oxford's league squad. Previously, he had been on the bench four times in a row for the matches against Hull City, Watford, Middlesbrough, and Sheffield United last November.

This was Marselino's second appearance with Oxford after the third-round FA Cup match when they were defeated 1-3 by Exeter City in January.

Eom Ji-sung, Ronald Pereira Martins, and Liam Cullen from Swansea, as well as Greg Leigh, Michal Helik, and Przemyslaw Placheta from Oxford, contributed to the 3-3 draw.

The result of this match placed Oxford in 17th position out of 24 teams, with 53 points from 13 wins and 14 draws. Oxford will continue to play in the Championship next season after securing a four-point lead over Luton Town in the top position of the relegation zone.

Erick Thohir's Comments

All-Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Chairperson Erick Thohir commented on the performances of Marselino Ferdinan and Ole Romeny at Oxford United.

He is pleased to see Ole Romeny starting for the seventh time. This was Ole's first start after not being included in the first 11 by coach Gary Rowett in the previous four matches.

Ole has appeared 14 times for Oxford this season. "I am happy to see Ole Romeny starting again for Oxford United in the last match of the EFL Championship this season. Oxford United has also secured their place in the EFL Championship for the next season," said Erick.
In this match, Ole played for 77 minutes, making 19 touches, 10 passes with a 60 percent accuracy, one successful long pass, one aerial duel won, and one clearance according to Sofascore statistics.

Erick is also pleased with Marselino being included in the substitute list. Marselino finally made his league debut for Oxford, playing for about 13 minutes when he replaced his compatriot, Ole, in that match.

"Marselino Ferdinan also made it to Oxford's substitute list and has the opportunity to gain experience playing for the first team of Oxford United," said Erick.

Furthermore, Erick, who is also the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, ensured that Ole and Marselino will return to defend the Indonesian national team, which will play its last two matches against China and Japan in the third round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers Group C in June.

"These two players will return to defend the Indonesian national team, which still has the opportunity to qualify for the World Cup. Hopefully, this will be an added motivation for both of them before they compete in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers against China and Japan," he added.
