TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Guntur Romli, a politician from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), clarified that PDIP Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri's attendance at the Pancasila Day commemoration was in her capacity as Head of the Board of Trustees of the Pancasila Ideology Development Agency. He firmly denied any political significance behind her presence.
Megawati participated in the Pancasila Day ceremony held at the Pancasila Building in Central Jakarta on Monday, June 2, 2025. President Prabowo Subianto led the ceremony, which took place in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs complex. The daughter of former President Soekarno directly participated in this governmental event, following her attendance at PDIP's online Pancasila Day commemoration the preceding day.
Guntur stated that Megawati's presence at the Pancasila Building aimed to continuously reinforce Pancasila as the foundation of the state and the nation's ideology. He emphasized that Pancasila's birthday is a crucial moment, marking the birth of the state's foundation, as articulated by Bung Karno during the Investigating Body for the Preparatory Work for Independence session on June 1, 1945.
"This is very fundamental, far removed from practical political issues, especially regarding coalition maps," he conveyed via a short message on Monday, June 2, 2025. The former National Awakening Party politician acknowledged that Megawati and Prabowo would naturally meet during the Pancasila Day event. "We have no information about any special meeting."
During the morning's Pancasila Day commemoration, Prabowo was observed walking with Megawati towards the front terrace of the Pancasila Building, followed by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka before the ceremony began.
In addition to Megawati, former Vice Presidents Try Sutrisno and Jusuf Kalla also attended the event. Notably absent were former Presidents Joko Widodo or Jokowi and Susilo Bambi Yudhoyono.
The PDIP remains the only major party that has not openly supported the current government. However, following the 2024 presidential election, Prabowo and Megawati, representing different political factions, met on April 7, 2025.
Puan Maharani, the Chair of PDIP's central executive board (DPP) indicated that Prabowo and Megawati are expected to meet again after their initial discussion. Puan confirmed that their previous conversation involved potential collaboration. "The matters discussed certainly relate to how to work together in building the nation and the state," Puan stated at the Parliament Building on Monday, April 14, 2025.
