TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Transportation Ministry has provided an update on the plan to build an airport in North Bali. This public infrastructure is said to align with President Prabowo Subianto's vision to accelerate the equitable distribution of development and strengthen national connectivity.
Director General of Air Transportation, Lukman F. Laisa, said that the airport construction project is a strategic step in supporting economic growth and equality in Bali. "The entire process must be conducted in an orderly, transparent, and legal manner to ensure accountability," Lukman said in a written statement on Monday, October 6, 2025.
The plan to build an airport in North Bali has been in progress for the last five years. The location has even changed from the original plan in Kubutambahan Village to Sumberklampok Village, following a proposal from the Bali Governor outlined in Bali Governor's Letter Number 553.2/7822/Dishub dated November 19, 2020.
Lukman also commented on the potential for future location changes. According to him, any subsequent change must be initiated by the local government retracting the previous proposal and submitting a new one, complete with all necessary documents in accordance with existing laws and regulations.
Regarding the land in Sumberklampok, Lukman stated that there have been no issues so far, and it is free from disputes. The Bali Provincial Government also guarantees the land's security, ensuring no future problems will disrupt the airport construction process.
"We are monitoring the implementation to ensure that each construction stage complies with the regulations," Lukman added.
Lukman envisions that the airport's presence in North Bali will strengthen air connectivity across the Island of the Gods. He stated that this new airport could support I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in serving the growth of tourism and national economic activities.
