Prabowo Appoints Amran Sulaiman as Head of Indonesia's Food Agency

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has appointed Minister of Agriculture Amran Sulaiman as the Head of the National Food Agency (Bapanas), replacing Arief Prasetyo Adi, who has been officially removed from the position.

The appointment and dismissal of the Head of Bapanas are stipulated in Presidential Decree Number 116/P of 2025. "Appointing Andi Amran Sulaiman as the Head of the National Food Agency," reads the presidential decree set in Jakarta, cited on Saturday, October 11, 2025.

In a copy of the document seen by Tempo, the decision was made by the head of state on October 9, 2025. The decision also takes effect from the date it was set.

Through the same document, Prabowo also appointed Amran to replace Arief, who had served as the head of Bapanas since 2022 after being inaugurated by former President Jokowi.

With this designation, Amran is entitled to financial rights and other facilities in accordance with the laws and regulations.

According to the presidential decree, Prabowo's consideration for removing Arief from his position is to improve the effectiveness of the government's tasks.

The dismissal of the Head of Bapanas is carried out in accordance with Article 41, paragraph (1), of Presidential Regulation Number 66 of 2021, which states that the head of the agency is appointed and dismissed by the President.

Tempo has sent a confirmation message regarding the validity of this presidential decree to the WhatsApp number of the State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi and his two deputies, Juri Ardiantoro and Bambang Eko Suhariyanto.

As for Tempo's confirmation message to Arief Prasetyo's WhatsApp number, it has not been responded to and only shows blue ticks.

Meanwhile, as quoted from Antara, Bapanas's Chief Secretary, Sarwo Edhy, confirmed the change in the agency's leadership.

Sarwo stated that the appointment was established through the Presidential Decree dated October 9, 2025.

"If the decree was received this afternoon, indeed, there has been a change, as stated in the decree dated October 9, 2025, which means yesterday," said Sarwo.
