Prabowo Continues State Visit to Russia After Singapore Stop

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto left Singapore late on Monday, June 16, 2025, after concluding his two-day state visit in the neighbor country.

According to the press, media, and information bureau at the Presidential Secretariat, Prabowo, along with a limited entourage, departed from Paya Lebar Air Base around 10:45 p.m. local time.

Singapore's Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, Singapore's Ambassador to Indonesia Kwok Fook Seng, Indonesia's Ambassador to Singapore Suryo Pratomo, and Defense Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore Colonel Hendra Supriyadi chaperoned Prabowo's departure.

Prabowo left Singapore for Russia after completing several agendas, including the state welcoming ceremony at the Parliament House. "President Prabowo's arrival was welcomed directly by Singapore's President, Tharman Shanmugaratnam," said Teddy in his statement on Monday, June 16, 2025.

Following the welcoming ceremony, President Prabowo also held the annual Leaders' Retreat bilateral meeting with Singapore's Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. During the meeting, Prabowo referred to the current Leaders' Retreat as an important milestone in the new phase of bilateral relations between the two countries.

Not only that, Prabowo had the opportunity to name a hybrid orchid as a tribute to his late mother, "Paraphalanthe Dora Sigar Soemitro."

Following his visit to Singapore, Prabowo continues his tour to Russia, after being personally invited by President Vladimir Putin. The president is also scheduled for the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2025 as a main speaker.

According to Prabowo's aide Teddy Indra Wijaya, the state visit is highly strategic to bolster the comprehensive cooperation and partnership between Indonesia and Russia.

"And it certainly showcases that Indonesia is an increasingly prominent nation in the global eye, especially amid the growing global challenges," said Cabinet Secretary Teddy, who accompanies Prabowo on his flight to Russia.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs previously confirmed Prabowo's stop in Russia this week. "The President and a limited entourage are scheduled to visit St. Petersburg, Russia, on June 18-20, 2025," said ministry spokesperson Rolliansyah Soemirat in a press conference on Thursday, June 12, 2025.

He explained that while answering Putin's invitation, Prabowo will also attend the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) in the city of St. Petersburg. "The President is scheduled to deliver a speech at the opening session and plenary session of SPIEF along with President Putin," he said.

During his meeting with Putin, the spokesperson said, Prabowo will engage in bilateral talks as well as exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual concern.

Roy explained that Prabowo will also sign several memorandums of understanding (MoU), including those covering cooperation in transport development, shipbuilding, education, creative economy, and computer technology.

Last April, the Russian Ambassador to Indonesia, Sergei Tolchenov, stated that they were preparing for the Indonesian president's visit to Russia in June. "The visit plan has been confirmed by Indonesia, and we will prepare the important agenda well," Ambassador Tolchenov said in Jakarta on Monday, April 28, 2025, as quoted from Antara.

Tolchenov hopes that Prabowo can use his presence at SPIEF 2025 to convey his vision and insights on the world's economic situation and how Indonesia is facing global issues.
