TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto stated that both Indonesia and Japan are ready to mediate conflicts around the world. Prabowo expressed this stance during a joint press statement with Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi at the Akasaka Palace in Tokyo on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

According to Prabowo, Indonesia and Japan share the view on the importance of efforts to de-escalate conflicts, especially amid the escalating global dynamics in the Middle East. "We are ready to act as mediators whenever necessary, facilitating de-escalation efforts and promoting peace," Prabowo stated in the press release.

Prabowo mentioned that Indonesia and Japan are deeply concerned about the current state of war. "Amid this uncertainty, the strong relationship between Indonesia and Japan serves as an example of collaboration that leads and ensures stability and peace in our region," he added.

During the same occasion, Prime Minister Takaichi expressed her appreciation for the progress of the cooperation established between Japan and Indonesia, especially in the economic and security sectors. Takaichi reaffirmed Japan's commitment to strengthening its cooperation with Indonesia further.

Takaichi expressed her hope to collectively strengthen and enrich the Indo-Pacific region. "I am grateful for the progress of various forms of cooperation between Japan and Indonesia, particularly in the economic and security sectors. I would like to work together to strengthen and enrich the Indo-Pacific region," Takaichi said.

Prior to the visit to the Akasaka Palace, Prabowo first visited the Imperial Palace of Japan on Monday, March 30. There, he met with Japanese Emperor Naruhito and his son, Fumihito, at the palace in Tokyo.

In addition, Prabowo also attended a business forum in Tokyo with Indonesian and Japanese entrepreneurs. The forum was jointly organized by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), Keidanren, the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry, as well as the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin).
