Prabowo Opens Presidential Palaces for School Visits

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Presidential Palace has opened its doors to school children following instructions from President Prabowo Subianto to introduce the government environment to the younger generation.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that opening the Presidential Palace fulfills President Prabowo's desire to provide students with firsthand experience of the nation's history and administrative processes.

"Today, April 7, 2026, on the instructions and wishes of President Prabowo, we are opening the Palace to school children. So, as you are aware, one of the President's biggest programs is investing in the development and character-shaping of the youth," Teddy said at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday, as reported by Antara.

The instruction took effect on Tuesday, marked by a visit from students of State Vocational High School (SMKN) 19, Central Jakarta.

Teddy explained that the students' visit included a discussion and question-and-answer session, a tour of the Palace, and an introduction to rooms where state decisions are made.

"Many have given testimonies. They see the President's office, where ministers are inaugurated, where the President signs, and where the President usually receives guests and the public. So, in essence, the President wants his palace to be as open as possible to the people. It's open during Eid al-Fitr, other major holidays, and for school children," said Teddy.

He added that this visit program will not only take place at the Merdeka Palace and the State Palace in Jakarta, but will also be implemented at all eight Presidential Palaces across Indonesia. "We will open each of them to school children," he said.

Teddy added that schools from outside Jakarta and outside Java will be facilitated to participate by registering through the Ministry of State Secretariat and the Cabinet Secretariat. The visit schedule will be set periodically, occurring once or twice a week.

Furthermore, Teddy clarified that there is no selection process for schools interested in the program, and all institutions are encouraged to register.

"The President wants [school students] to simply come to the Palace, be introduced to the environment, and see it for themselves. They'll see, gain experience, and God willing, be inspired to have big dreams. There might not be a selection process. So, please register as mentioned, and then the committee will arrange it (the schedule)," Teddy said.

Teddy went on to say that opening the Presidential Palace to students is part of the youth development program initiated by President Prabowo, which includes providing nutritious meals, renovating schools and sanitation facilities, installing digital television for learning, developing diverse school models, and improving teacher welfare.
