TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto has pledged flexible financing terms for citizens looking to transition from fuel-powered motorcycles to domestically produced electric motorcycles. He delivered the remarks during the launch of the national electric motorcycle (Molinas) and its supporting ecosystem at PT Ilectra Motor Group's (ALVA) manufacturing plant in Cikarang, Bekasi Regency, West Java.
The Head of State requested the support of Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa in promoting low-cost financing schemes to encourage people to adopt electric motorcycles. These schemes include purchasing electric motorcycles with low installment interest rates or zero down payment (DP).
"We talked earlier, the Minister of Finance won't be too happy about this, but you'll also like it in the end. We'll lower interest rates and installment interest rates for the people. Then, we'll try to eliminate down payments," Prabowo said on Thursday, August 13, 2026, as broadcast live on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel.
The General Chairperson of the Gerindra Party said that using electric motorcycles can reduce people's mobility costs. Prabowo claimed that people's expenses when using electric motorcycles can be reduced compared to using gasoline-powered motorcycles. "We calculated that using an electric motorcycle compared to a gasoline-powered motorcycle saves at least 50 percent. Your daily expenses for transportation are at least 50 percent, and can even reach 70 percent in the end," he said.
On that occasion, Prabowo issued a warning to people who still use gasoline-powered motorcycles. For Prabowo, those who use fuel-powered vehicles must bear the financial consequences of their own decisions. He offered incentives from the government to help save money. "So, if anyone still uses a gasoline-powered motorcycle, feel it for themselves," he said.
Furthermore, according to Prabowo, the use of fuel-based vehicles will face pressure from environmental policies. He warned about the carbon tax policy, a government-imposed fee on carbon emissions or the use of fossil fuels. "In big cities like Beijing, gasoline-powered motorcycles are not allowed to enter. So, this is just a warning to those who still insist on using gasoline-powered motorcycles," Prabowo said.
