Prabowo Says Large-Scale Investment to Enter Indonesia in Coming Weeks

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto said Indonesia expects a wave of large-scale investment in coming weeks, citing strong economic indicators and investment realization despite global economic uncertainty.

Prabowo made the remarks in the “President Prabowo Answers” program, released by the Government Communications Agency on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.

He said first-half investment realization reached Rp1,010.6 trillion, or about US$57.2 billion, meeting nearly half of the 2026 investment target.

Investment realization reached Rp1,931.2 trillion, or about US$109.2 billion, in 2025, generating more than 2.7 million jobs.

In the first half of 2026, investment realization generated 1.45 million jobs, according to data from the Investment Ministry and Investment Coordinating Board.

Prabowo said the investment reflected private-sector activity entering Indonesia amid global volatility rather than a government program.

He said investors were attracted by what he described as Indonesia’s strong economic fundamentals and relatively stable macroeconomic conditions.

Prabowo also pointed to low inflation, a relatively low debt ratio and a fiscal deficit below the government’s three percent threshold.

He said Indonesia’s inflation rate was 2.92 percent, which he cited as evidence of the economy’s relative stability.

The president also said Indonesia’s long-term economic prospects remained strong, citing a Goldman Sachs projection that the country could rank among the world’s largest economies by 2050.

Prabowo said global analysts expect Indonesia to rank fourth, fifth or sixth among the world’s largest economies by 2050, without specifying a single projection.

He said the government would use the country’s economic fundamentals to maintain growth momentum and attract further investment.

Indonesia’s first-half investment reached 49.5 percent of its full-year target of Rp2,041.3 trillion, according to BKPM data.

The government has said investment remains a key driver of economic growth, industrial development and job creation amid continued global uncertainty.
