PSSI Still Withholds Names of Five Indonesian National Team Coach Candidates

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The names of the five potential coaches for the senior Indonesian national team are still closely guarded at the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI). The federation, led by Erick Thohir, refuses to disclose the identities of the candidates, even though the process to replace Patrick Kluivert has been ongoing.

The Secretary General of PSSI, Yunus Nusi, stated that the federation is still deliberating the list of candidates internally. He asks the public to be patient until the selection process is complete. "Allow us to deliberate on this. We are still refraining from disclosing those names," said Yunus during a press conference at the GBK Arena Building on Thursday, November 20, 2025.

According to Yunus, the main reason PSSI is keeping the information about the coach candidates confidential is the lack of a final decision. "There is no certainty yet as to who among these five names will be coaching," he said.

He asks the public to understand the federation's considerations. He explained that the non-disclosure of names is aimed at safeguarding the positions of the candidates under consideration. "We need to refrain from disclosing those names to protect everything regarding those names," said Yunus.

PSSI aims to appoint a new coach soon. After the internal team reaches an agreement, the selected name will be brought to the Executive Committee (Exco) for a joint decision. "The decision will be made collectively there," said Yunus.

Yunus reiterated the request for the public not to speculate. "This involves people's names," he said. "According to the mechanism, it will be disclosed to the public later. Since there is more than one, we are not able to disclose it now."
