Qatar Airways Reinstates Flights as Middle East Conflict Stirs Global Air Chaos

7 hours ago 2

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Qatar Airways announces the reinstatement of flights after Qatar's airspace was reopened on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.

Qatar had earlier closed its airspace on Monday evening, June 23, 2025, over concerns of Iran's retaliation following U.S. military strikes. Iran struck the U.S. military base in Qatar, the Al Udeid Air Base.

In its statement, Qatar Airways will focus on assisting passengers to return home or continue their journey "safely and smoothly." The airline is also working with government stakeholders and relevant authorities to restore operations as quickly as possible.

"As operations resume, we anticipate significant delays to our flight schedule. We would advise passengers to check qatarairways.com or the Qatar Airways mobile application ahead of travel. The safety of our passengers and crew is the first and highest priority at all times."

Impacted Flights

The previous closure of Qatari airspace affected global airlines. A spokesperson for Virgin Australia said two services operated by Qatar Airways for Virgin Australia were diverted on the way to Doha, as quoted from News.com.au.

The two flights were VA1 (Sydney-Doha), diverted to Bengaluru; and VA15 (Brisbane-Doha), diverted to Muscat. Both aircraft landed safely. Passengers scheduled to travel with Virgin Australia services between Australia and Doha in the coming days are advised to monitor flight information.

Flight Cancellations

Meanwhile, Singapore Airlines (SIA) has canceled all flights between Singapore and Dubai until Wednesday, June 25, 2025. At least six flights were canceled from Singapore to Dubai and vice versa from Monday, June 23 to Wednesday, June 25. In its announcement on the official website, as the situation in the Middle East remains "fluid," other flights from the airlines between Singapore and Dubai may be affected.

The Singapore Airlines stated that it would contact all affected customers of the flight cancellations. "Customers affected by the flight cancellations will be reaccommodated on alternative flights or can seek a full refund of the unused portion of their ticket," the airline's statement was quoted from Channel News Asia.

For passengers who booked flights directly, they can use the airline's Assistance Request Form to request a refund. Those who booked through travel agents or partner airlines can contact the booking agent or the purchasing airline directly for assistance.

Other Airlines Cancelling Flights

Flights to Doha have been diverted to airports across the Middle East. This includes British Airways, which has also suspended flights to the country. However, they continue to monitor the evolving situation and adjust schedules to ensure the safety of passengers and cabin crew.

Finnair, Finland's flagship airline, also suspended flights to Doha at noon on Monday, June 23. This includes the cancellation of all flights from June 19 to June 30, and flight AY1982 on July 1, 2025. Additionally, Air France has canceled flights to and from Dubai and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia until June 24, citing Metro UK.

Meanwhile, Emirates has altered the routes of several flights to its Dubai hub on June 23, but there have been no diversions. Some flights may experience delays due to longer route diversions or crowded airspace. However, the Emirates team continues to operate flights as scheduled, using flight paths far from the conflict.
