TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The technology company Samsung is reportedly getting closer to launching its first Android-based XR headset, codenamed Project Moohan. The device was previously said to be launched on September 29, but the schedule has been delayed until late October. Although Samsung has not made an official statement, the latest reports provide a clearer picture of the pre-registration and launch timing.
According to a report from ChosunBiz, cited from GSM Arena, pre-registration for the Project Moohan headset begins on October 15 and lasts until October 21. After the pre-registration period ends, Samsung is said to hold the official launch on October 22. This schedule is specifically for the South Korean market. The device will launch there first before gradually expanding to other regions.
Project Moohan is the result of a collaboration between three technology giants-Samsung, Google, and Qualcomm-who together developed the Android-based XR ecosystem. The device will run on the Android XR operating system and will be equipped with the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chipset, designed specifically for mixed reality devices.
Based on various rumors and reports, the XR headset is expected to be priced between 2.5 million Korean won (around Rp31.9 million) and 4 million Korean won (around Rp50.9 million) in the South Korean market. Samsung is also targeting an initial shipment of around 100,000 units for Project Moohan. However, this number may change depending on the market demand after the official launch.
Samsung is reportedly making a significant move in the increasingly competitive XR device market with the launch of Project Moohan. Major players like Apple and Meta are already present in this market.
