TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Singapore is set to construct a 50-megawatt (MW) solar power plant in Nusantara Capital (IKN), East Kalimantan. This project is a joint venture between Sembcorp and PLN Nusantara Renewables, a subsidiary of PT PLN Nusantara Power. Together, they have formed PT Nusantara Sembcorp Solar Energi.
Sembcorp's commitment to investing in diversified energy and urban solutions was solidified with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the solar power plant's development on Monday, June 16, 2025. The signing ceremony, held at the Singapore Parliament House, was witnessed by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.
Basuki Hadimuljono, Head of the IKN Authority, stated that Nusantara Sembcorp Solar Energi will develop and operate the solar power plant on an 86-hectare plot of land. He highlighted this project as part of the bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Singapore in the renewable energy sector.
"This simultaneously proves that the IKN vision attracts global investors committed to sustainable development," Basuki said on Thursday, June 19, 2025, in a written statement.
According to Basuki, the development of green infrastructure, such as the IKN solar power plant, is not just about clean energy. It is also designed in line with principles of ecologically based spatial planning and tropical forest conservation. He emphasized the vision of a smart, sustainable forest city for Nusantara and its supporting regions.
Basuki, who previously served as Minister of Public Works and Housing under Joko Widodo or Jokowi, also noted that renewable energy infrastructure development is a top priority in IKN's master plan. He hopes the 50 MW solar power plant project will help achieve net-zero emissions and expand access to environmentally friendly energy.
"This will make Nusantara a model of the future city that integrates innovation, sustainability, and energy sovereignty," Basuki concluded.
