TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Directorate General of Taxation (DJP) at the Ministry of Finance has allocated Rp277 billion from the 2025 State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN) to support Indonesian football development programs, including the national team’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In a statement shared via its official Instagram account @ditjenpajakri on Monday, June 9, 2025, the DJP emphasized the role of taxpayers in national achievements.
“The taxes we pay play a role in supporting the World Garuda,” the post read. According to the DJP, approximately 73 percent of the total budget comes from tax revenue.
This funding is being channeled into three main areas: preparations for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, training programs for national teams across various age groups, and the operational initiatives of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI). The goal is to elevate the competitiveness of Indonesian football and strengthen the national team's position on the global stage.
The budget announcement comes on the heels of a historic win by the Indonesian national team, which advanced to the fourth round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers after a 1-0 victory against China at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium on Thursday, June 5, 2025.
Following the match, President Prabowo Subianto invited the players and officials to a lunch gathering at his residence in South Jakarta. According to PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir, the president treated the team like family and praised their dedication.
“Because we know they have sacrificed a lot for the Red and White,” Thohir told reporters after the meeting on Friday, June 6.
Beyond football, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has also distributed funding for a total of 13 prioritized sports. However, football received the largest portion of the budget, amounting to Rp199.7 billion, significantly higher than other disciplines such as badminton, rock climbing, and archery.
Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo noted that football receives special attention due to its strategic value and developmental potential, as outlined in Presidential Instruction Number 3 of 2019 concerning the acceleration of national football development.
“Based on the Presidential Instruction, PSSI receives a budget not only for national training centers, but also for the overall development of football,” Dito said on April 15, 2025, in an official statement published on the ministry's website.
The significant budget allocation reflects the government's continued commitment to supporting sports excellence and enhancing Indonesia’s international sporting reputation, starting with the nation's most popular game.
