TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The West Papua National Liberation Army-Free Papua Movement (TPNPB-OPM) is suspected of attacking civilians in Lambera Village, Yugumoak District, Puncak Regency, Central Papua. The police claimed that three civilians died in the attack that occurred on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. local time.
The head of the Cartenz Peace Operations, Brigadier General Ramadhani, said the attack was carried out by the militia led by Kalenak Murib. The three victims who died were Minanggen Wijangge, Patiago Tabuni, and Oriup Murib.
"The Cartenz Peace Operation will continue to pursue and take firm action against the attackers, in accordance with applicable law," said Ramadhani in his statement on Friday, June 20, 2025.
Based on witness statements, the attack was triggered by personal motives. According to Ramadhani, Kalenak Murib was incensed after finding his third wife was having an affair with one of his subordinates, Minanggen Wijangge. He said that Kalenak Murib brought 23 troops into Lambera Village on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m., carrying at least four long-barreled firearms.
Currently, most of the residents of Lambera Village have moved to safer places in Megeabume District and Sinak District. Security forces continue to patrol and coordinate with the Yugumoak government to help residents evacuate to the nearest districts.
