Trump Announces Israel-Iran Ceasefire Amid Continued Strikes and Doubts

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President of the United States Donald Trump once again announced a ceasefire between Israel and Iran in the early hours of Tuesday, June 24, 2025, local time, urging both nations to adhere to the agreement.

"THE CEASEFIRE IS NOW IN EFFECT. PLEASE DO NOT VIOLATE IT!" Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, as cited by Anadolu.

This statement came just hours after a similar announcement by Trump. On Monday night local time, he declared that Israel and Iran had officially agreed to a full and comprehensive ceasefire, marking what he described as the end of the "12-Day War."

In his Monday post on Truth Social, Trump congratulated both sides and announced the ceasefire would begin in approximately six hours, once ongoing military operations concluded.

The initial ceasefire was scheduled to last 12 hours, during which both parties were expected to act in a “peaceful and respectful” manner.

However, uncertainty and doubt surrounded the ceasefire declaration. A senior Iranian official told CNN that Tehran had not received a formal proposal from Washington and saw no reason to halt hostilities against either the United States or Israel.

"At this very moment, the enemy is committing aggression against Iran, and Iran is on the verge of intensifying its retaliatory strikes, with no ear to listen to the lies of its enemies," the official stated, as quoted by CNN.

He further said that statements from U.S. and Israeli leaders would be treated as “deception” aimed at justifying further attacks on Iran, raising questions about the viability and enforcement of the ceasefire.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi emphasized that there was “no agreement” in place between Iran and Israel regarding a ceasefire.

“As of now, there is NO ‘agreement’ on any ceasefire or cessation of military operation,” he stated.

“However, provided that the Israeli regime stops its illegal aggression against the Iranian people no later than 4 am Tehran time, we have no intention to continue our response afterwards.”

Despite that, Iran launched a new barrage of missile strikes targeting several Israeli cities. At least four people were killed in Beersheba.

Explosions were also reported in Tel Aviv and central Israel, while Iran reportedly targeted the city of Haifa and the Ramat David Air Base in the north, according to Press TV.

The attacks were in retaliation for Israeli strikes the previous night that, according to Iranian state TV, killed a number of senior Iranian commanders and a nuclear scientist, Mohammad Reza Siddiqi, in Tehran.

Another nuclear scientist, Seyyed Mostafa Sadati Armaki from Kashan, central Iran, was also killed along with his entire family in the Israeli strike on Monday, Press TV reported.

Additionally, at least nine people were killed and 33 others injured in western Gilan province as a result of the Israeli attacks, the semi-official Tasnim News Agency reported. Four residential buildings were destroyed and many more homes were damaged.

In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that Israel had accepted President Trump's ceasefire proposal to end the 12-day conflict with Iran.

Netanyahu made the statement, as reported by France24 and Al Jazeera, following Iran’s limited retaliatory strikes on U.S. bases in Qatar and Iraq.

He informed Israel’s security cabinet on Monday night that all strategic goals of the 12-day military campaign had been met. The statement noted that Israel had fulfilled all of the operation’s objectives, removing “a dual immediate existential threat, both nuclear and ballistic missile-related.”

Netanyahu also claimed that Israel had struck Iran’s military leadership and government sites, while gaining control over Tehran’s airspace.

The Israeli military “achieved full air control over the skies of Tehran, causing severe damage to the military leadership, and destroying dozens of central government targets,” he stated.

“Given the achievement of the operational goals, and with full coordination with President Trump, Israel has agreed to the president's proposal for a bilateral ceasefire.”

“However, Israel will respond firmly to any ceasefire violations.”

As of this writing, the Iranian government has yet to issue an official response.
