TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Donald Trump has stated that the United States will disarm Hamas if the group refuses to surrender its weapons. The statement was made at the White House on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, a day after Trump's visit to the Middle East to mark the Gaza ceasefire agreement.

"They're going to disarm, because they said they were going to disarm. And if they don't disarm, we will disarm them," said Trump, as reported by CNA. He added that the process would be swift and could possibly involve violence.

Trump claimed Hamas had assured him of their disarmament, emphasizing that he "is not playing games." However, he did not elaborate on whether U.S. forces would be directly involved in the process.

Second Phase of Peace Agreement

The statement follows the launch of Trump's 20-point Middle East peace plan, one of the main stages of which is the disarmament of Hamas, a condition the group has so far refused. Trump noted that Hamas had committed to the initial ceasefire agreement, which was designed to end the war in Gaza and pave the way for peace in the region.

According to CBS News, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Trump's conditions were "very clear." Speaking to CBS Mornings in Tel Aviv, Netanyahu emphasized that the next step, after all living hostages are freed, is the demilitarization of Gaza: "First, Hamas has to give up its arms. And second, you want to make sure that there are no weapons factories inside Gaza. There's no smuggling of weapons into Gaza," he said.

Netanyahu added that Israel agreed to "give peace a chance," stating, "I hope we can do this peacefully. We're certainly ready to do so."

Demand for the Return of Hostage Bodies

While 20 living hostages were released last Monday, Hamas still holds 24 bodies of victims; only four were returned on the same day.

"ALL TWENTY HOSTAGES ARE BACK AND FEELING AS GOOD AS CAN BE EXPECTED. A big burden has been lifted, but the job IS NOT DONE," Trump wrote on the Truth Social platform. "THE DEAD HAVE NOT BEEN RETURNED, AS PROMISED! Phase Two begins right NOW!!!" he continued.

Trump also mentioned that Hamas had falsely reported the number of casualties, commenting, "It seems as if they don't have that, because we're talking about a much lesser number. But that's a very tough subject."

Separately, Israel's National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir threatened to halt aid supplies to Gaza if Hamas fails to surrender the remaining bodies of Israeli soldiers.

Currently, hospitals in Gaza have reported receiving 45 bodies of Palestinian citizens returned by Israel as part of the ceasefire agreement.
