TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Young Indonesian racer Veda Ega Pratama has clinched his second consecutive victory in the fourth series of the 2025 Red Bull Rookies Cup at Italy's Mugello Circuit. He won the second race, held on Sunday, June 22, 2025.
For the second time, the Indonesia Raya anthem resonated at the circuit, famously known for Italian racing legend Valentino Rossi's numerous MotoGP wins. Veda outperformed Malaysian racer and current standings leader, Hakim Danish.
Starting from second position (P2), Veda maintained his speed from start to finish. He entered the final lap in the lead, but Danish briefly overtook him in the last corner.
However, Veda refused to yield. In the very last corner, he capitalized on his superior speed on the straight, seizing the lead and ultimately winning the super-tight race by crossing the finish line just ahead of Danish.
The racer from Gunungkidul Regency, Yogyakarta, completed the race in 26 minutes and 44.347 seconds, a mere 0.011 seconds ahead of Danish in second place, and 0.057 seconds ahead of Benat Fernandez in third.
Veda expressed his gratitude for achieving his second victory. "Thank you to Allah. I am very happy because I could be the champion here twice. This is a perfect weekend for me. I don't know, I can't say anything, because I am very, very happy," Veda said after the race.
He added, "Special thanks to the fans in Indonesia. Thank you very much for always supporting me."
On Saturday, Veda, also starting from P2, initially dropped to eighth position by the final lap. However, he found pace on the straight, allowing his motorbike to accelerate rapidly and overtake the riders ahead of him.
The 16-year-old racer skillfully claimed first position at the first corner and then rode flawlessly through every subsequent corner, maintaining his lead against a chasing group of 16 other riders.
He crossed the finish line in 26 minutes and 31.484 seconds, just 0.071 seconds ahead of David Gonzalez (Spain) in second place and 0.145 seconds ahead of Giulio Pugliese (Italy) in third.
Meanwhile, despite being defeated by Veda, Danish was still thankful to be on the podium after finishing 13th in Saturday's first race. "Today, I am very happy to be back on the podium. Today is better. I really enjoyed today's race," he commented.
These two victories at Mugello have propelled Veda to third place in the overall standings with 92 points, narrowing the gap in this competition that has produced many great MotoGP riders. He is now 32 points behind Brian Uriarte in second place and 56 points behind Danish, who currently leads the standings.
Another Indonesian racer, Kiandra Ramadhipa, remains in 15th position with 32 points. Although he improved his performance in the second race, finishing eighth, he had finished 12th in Saturday's first race.
Next, Veda and Kiandra will compete in the fifth series of the Red Bull Rookies Cup at Germany's Sachsenring Circuit on July 12-13, coinciding with the eleventh MotoGP series at the same venue.
