Volcanic Ash from Lewotobi Disrupts Flights at Lombok Airport

5 hours ago 2

TEMPO.CO, Mataram - Several flights to and from Lombok Airport on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, were canceled. The flight cancellations were due to the spread of volcanic ash from the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki, East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara.

Stephanus Millyas Wardana, General Manager of PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia KC Lombok Airport, said that as of today's data (June 18, 2025) until 1:00 p.m. WITA (Indonesia Central Time), the airlines canceled six flights, consisting of two domestic flights and four international flights.

"The details are one departure and one arrival for domestic flights, while for international flights, there were two departures and two arrivals," he said.

The domestic flights that were canceled are Wings Air IW1878 Lombok-Bima and Wings Air IW1879 Bima-Lombok. The canceled international flights are Scoot TR261 from Lombok to Singapore and Scoot TR260 from Singapore to Lombok, AirAsia AK305 Lombok-Singapore, and AirAsia AK304 Kuala Lumpur-Lombok.

Meanwhile, the number of affected passengers recorded is 722, consisting of 130 domestic and 642 international flight passengers.

To anticipate the current conditions, PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia Lombok Airport continues coordinating with the airlines, BMKG, and the Airport Authority Office. Every decision from all related parties at Lombok Airport regarding flight operations related to the activities of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki is based on the principle of prioritizing flight safety and security.

Millyas urged prospective passengers to pay attention to information from the airlines regarding the current flight status, especially the potential for flight delays and cancellations in line with the activities of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki. "For prospective passengers holding flight tickets to and from Lombok Airport that are affected, they can contact the airline's customer service or call center for further explanation," he said.

As of now, the airport authorities ensure that the airspace at Lombok Airport is not affected by volcanic ash from the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki. "Aerodrome observation with paper tests conducted every hour has yielded negative results, meaning no spread of volcanic ash from Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki in the airport area. This is strengthened by information and predictions of the direction of volcanic ash by BMKG, monitoring by Perum LPPNPI, and pilot reports," said Millyas.
