TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Maruarar Sirait, Chairperson of the Steering Committee for the 2025 President's Cup, has confirmed that this pre-season football tournament will feature six teams: four from Indonesia and two foreign clubs. The champion team will receive a prize of Rp5 billion.
"The prize for the champion is Rp5 billion, Rp3 billion for the runner-up, Rp2 billion for third place, and Rp1 billion for fourth place," Maruarar Sirait informed journalists at the Emtek Office in Jakarta on Thursday, June 12, 2025.
The seventh edition of this tournament is set to kick off in early July, with the opening match being held at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium in Jakarta. Following the opening at SUGBK, subsequent matches will take place at the Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Soreang, Bandung Regency.
"I have checked in Bandung; we examined GBLA (Gelora Bandung Lautan Api), and it turns out that the grass is not conducive," Maruarar explained. "Pak Dedi (Governor of West Java), Pak Farhan (Mayor of Badung Muhammad), and I were there two weeks ago. We concluded that GBLA is not ready, so we are moving to Si Jalak Harupat."
The Indonesian Minister of Housing and Settlements declined to disclose the names of the six participating teams, stating that they would be announced at a press conference on Friday at 11:00 AM WIB.
Regarding the two foreign teams, Maruarar noted that their invitation aims to provide local clubs with experience playing against international competition. This year's edition marks the first time foreign clubs will participate in the President's Cup.
"I think the reason is sound so that our clubs can gain more experience playing against foreign teams, much like our national team. This will accustom our clubs to playing against foreign clubs," he elaborated.
The number of teams in this edition is confirmed to be the lowest compared to previous years. The inaugural edition in 2015 saw 16 participating teams, which increased to 20 teams in the second (2017), third (2018), and fourth (2019) editions. The number then decreased to 18 teams in the fifth edition (2022) and further to eight teams in the last edition (2024).
Arema FC has been the most successful team, winning the tournament four times in 2017, 2019, 2022, and 2024.
