TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An Air India airplane flying to Gatwick Airport in London, UK, crashed and hit a doctors' dormitory shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad on Thursday, June 11, 2025. As reported by The Economic Times, the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner (VT-ANB) with flight number AI-171 was carrying 242 people, including two pilots and 10 cabin crew.
"Within 2–3 minutes, police and other agencies reached the spot. Almost 70–80% of the area has been cleared. All agencies are working here," said a senior police officer.
So, what are the specifications of the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner?
Price and Specifications of the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner
According to Paramount Business Jets, the average purchase price of a new Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner unit reaches US$225 million, while a pre-owned cost US$119 million on average.
Referring to Boeing's official website, the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner is claimed to be the best-selling wide-body passenger aircraft of all time. In less than 14 years, the 787-8 Dreamliner fleet has carried more than 1 billion passengers, faster than any other wide-body jet in aviation history.
The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner is designed with a lighter and stronger composite structure. This allows airlines to reduce operational costs for fuel by up to 25 percent.
The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner has a length of 57 meters, a wingspan of 60 meters, and a height of 17 meters. The engines used are GEnx-1B/Trent 1000 with a maximum range of 13,530 kilometers (7,305 nmi).

Garuda Indonesia's aircraft fleet consists of Boeing 777-300ER, Boeing 737-800NG, Airbus A330-200, Airbus A330-300, and Airbus A330-900neo.

In addition to Garuda Indonesia, on Friday, June 8, 2021, Lion Air Group confirmed its commitment to order five Boeing 787 Dreamliners for Batik Air. However, based on information from Batik Air's official website, the airline operates six Airbus A330-300 and 46 Boeing B737-8/800 aircraft.
Based on Tempo's research, the first Boeing 787 Dreamliner to land in Indonesia belonged to Singapore Airlines. The Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner aircraft arrived at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali, on Monday, July 2, 2018, serving the Singapore-Bali route.
