TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia is investigating four corporations in West Kalimantan over alleged violations linked to forest and land fires, State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi said, as reported by Antara.

"Four corporations are currently under investigation, according to the report we received," Prasetyo said Saturday after attending a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto in Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan. The meeting was monitored online from Jakarta.

Prasetyo said the government would not hesitate to take action against corporations found to have violated regulations related to forest and land fires, including potentially revoking their operating permits.

He said authorities would await the investigation results before determining legal action against the companies suspected of involvement in the fires.

"If violations are found, we will not hesitate to take action, including the possibility of revoking their permits," Prasetyo said.

Before that, Prasetyo also said law enforcement was among the points emphasized by Prabowo during two coordination meetings on forest and land fire management in West Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan.

"One of the President's key instructions, and one we all share, is that if criminal acts are found to have violated the law and caused fires, they must be prosecuted," Prasetyo said during a media briefing monitored via the Presidential Secretariat's livestream in Jakarta.

He said enforcement would apply to all parties involved, including individuals and corporations.

"This includes corporations, individuals, or anyone who gives instructions or orders to clear land or carry out burning," he said.

Meanwhile, Prasetyo said no information on suspected corporate violations in Central Kalimantan had been presented during the latest coordination meeting on the fires.

"That should be asked of the provincial police chief, because it was not reported during the meeting for Central Kalimantan," he said.
